A simple walkthrough to install and Anaconda 4.3.0 on Centos 7.

As always, this is as much documentation for me as it is intended to be a tutorial but suggested corrections, additions and omissions are welcomed.

1. Download

Download the latest installer from the Continuum Analytics:

mkdir /opt/python
cd /opt/python
wget https://repo.continuum.io/archive/Anaconda2-4.3.0-Linux-x86_64.sh

2. Install

bash Anaconda2-4.3.0-Linux-x86_64.sh

It will ask you to continue:

press enter

It will ask you where you want to install. I personally use /opt for all 3rd party packages so I elected to use: /opt/anaconda/anaconda2:

custom install directory

It will ask you if you want to add the binaries to the root’s ~/.bashrc, which you may want to do, but I elected not to as I’m not ever expecting to be running Python or any Python services as root.

If you installed as a user to a writeable location, you should say “yes” here and hit enter.

If you ran with sudo make sure to add the binaries to the path in your user’s ~/.bashrc:

echo 'export PATH="/opt/anaconda/anaconda2/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.bashrc

You should now have a successful install!

python --version
# Python 2.7.5
